The ADD Community Center is dedicated to all people who have Attention Deficit Disorder or know someone with it. Members of the ADD CC come from all walks of life they can be: diagnosed as children, diagnosed as adults, or simply think they might have Attention Deficit Disorder. All united by the knowledge that they think, process, or are wired differently than the vast majority of the world. It has been estimated that between 4 and 8% of the population has Attention Deficit Disorder. Here people with ADD don’t have to feel isolated. All can come together to help, share or just hang out in the chat room, or in posts, or blogs.

New Beginnings

This new look to the ADD Community Center is just another new beginning. This site has a renewed look, enthusiasm and features. Maybe this time it can embody our philosophy about Attention Deficit Disorder. One that tries to maximize the good and minimize the negative. Sounds a lot better than managing symptoms in ADD.
As a newly minted empty nester I've found that even though the children have left...well..much of their stuff hasn't. AND sad to say all my excuses to not do whatever I don't do have escaped as well.

Inside my mind

I think that the stuff published on ADHD is a little too clinical. By this I mean that professionals are trained to identify the symptoms and treat the negatives. They do not know and can not know ADHD like an ADHDer does. This does not mean that we know about our condition better than a professional, but we understand what it FEELS like, not what it LOOKS like. We don't know what medication to administer or who to refer a patient to but I think it is time that people from this website try to explain as best they can what it is like to have ADHD. I encourage others to write an article on this site like mine because those who do not have ADHD and are indirectly affected by the condition should not only know the clinical stuff, but also the stuff that we as ADHDers just KNOW.

To start off with, to all non-ADHDers who are reading this: You must understand that you can NOT entirely comprehend what it FEELS like to have ADHD just by reading the clinical stuff or even reading this article. The only way you can build up a clear picture is by researching multiple works. ADHD is a very controversial subject. There will be clashing statements. Some may be just wrong and some may be right in only certain circumstances where some are generally accepted to be true. I hope that by spending some time here and getting to know the ADHD community at this wonderful website you will be able to decide for yourself what is true and what applies to the ADHDers you know.

Nashville Resident Looking for Physician Recommendations

I'm new to the ADD Community Center. I'm 27 years old and I have not been diagnosed with ADD but everything I've read makes me positive that I've been dealing with it all my life. I would like to see a doctor who can diagnose and prescribe who specializes in ADD and ADHD matters. I'm from a small country town in Sumner county in Tennessee, about 25 minutes from Nashville. Can anyone help to point me in the right direction or make a recommendation? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

It is mostly an effort of my IRC channel on freenode, #adhdchat, but I'd like it if this community could combine efforts with mine to produce an excellent ADHD resource. A Dog's Life

Today, while getting dressed I caught an expression on the dog's face that I swear said "Humans! why do they cover up the good stuff?" She then proceeded to clean herself in a very convenient (for her) manner. Not even going to go there.

But It did give me paws (pause-- sorry) to think of all the other things that dogs have it better.

Unlike people; a dog doesn't have to worry about daylight saving time. No spring back/fall ahead.

Twice a year the entire country works it's best to make sure I'm more confused and my time concepts are under attack again.

Dogs don't have that problem. Do they laugh at us because we insist on changing something like time? Changing time Hah! There is no time for a dog. It's all just NOW.

NOW it's time to eat. Drink NOW. Go out Now. Play NOW. NOW it's time to sleep.

A dog has a lot of NOW.

We get to get up one hour earlier or later. Too early, too late. We make entries into our day planners, Schedule appointments. Pencil ourselves in. We schedule our leisure and fun for later. We don't have a lot of now.

We have a lot of later. Not so much NOW.

Forgetting NOW we don't enjoy the life like a dog. NO pure thrill of now.

We have a lot of pasts too. Pasts keep us from now. We spend way too much time in the past. Hard to put things in perspective if you are spending too much time in the past and future -- but not in the now.

Personally, I've spent way too much time ruminating the past or future like a cow. It's time for a dog's life of NOW.

As most of you should know, ADHD isn't really a deficit or a disorder like the proper name describes. I prefer to call it- Attention Diverse Hyperactivity Trait. That's a bit more positive, is it not?

Orage

For the past while I've been using an organiser program called Orage. It is very nice. Make sure you get the svn version, though, because the current version sucks.

It is a part of the XFCE suite meaning it is light weight and has few dependancies.

Very useful for us ADHDers!
